Douglas Lake Fishing Reports

Crappie bite is hot!                                                   Bass Fishing  fair!

On Douglas we`ve still been doing fair on Bass with cranks and jerkbaits mid-lake to the dam, with some nice Smallies in the mix on blade baits as well.   Water is stained in the lower end with temps ranging in the low to mid 50`s.  Jigs are also producing some nice fish anywhere from 5 to 20ft on lead in banks and long points with deep water close.

The Crappie are biting!    On Douglas Lake the upper end has a lot of color, but the Crappie bite has been red hot under a bobber and a few are trolling.  On dark days try some dark flies with a minnow and on sunny days use lighter colors tipped with a minnow.  Set your rig from 3ft to 12ft depending on conditions.   Indian Creek and areas up to Walters Bridge are a good bet right now.  The Crappie bite should continue to get even better as the water starts warming in Feb.

From mid-lake down the Crappie have been on & off with some coming on bobbers 5 to 15ft  and some spider rigging and trolling 10 to 20ft depending on conditions.

Walleye and sauger are on too!  Nice limits of Walleye and Suager are being caught on  the upper end of Douglas Lake.  Swanns area on up to  Point 18 and on up to the forks of the river.  Try drifting and  tightlining jigs with minnow type baits or trolling minnow type baits.  Colors such as,  pearl w chart, smoke, pink or blue & pearl patterns have been working well for us.   Or troll crankbaits on the flats and long tapering points from Muddy Creek up to Point 18.

White Bass,    Catching a few on spinners, cranks and grubs.  Mostly from Indian Creek to Point 18.

Bluegill Bite,   For  Bluegill , try rocky points or bluffs with crickets or red worms and pockets with some cover from Mid-lake to the dam.  Tightlining should produce the best results.
