Cherokee Lake Fishing Reports

Jan 23, 2012

On Cherokee Lake the over all Bass fishing has been fair,  but the Smallmouth bite has been better than average the last 2 weeks.   The water being heavily stained on the upper end to lightly stained on the lower end, with water temps ranging in the mid 50`s.    We`ve been catching some nice Smallies & Largemouth Bass from mid-lake to the lower end on 200 & 300 series Bandits and Jerkbaits fished aorund wind blown points and banks or lead in banks or points with deep water close by.  Also catching some nice Smallies from deeper points and structure with grubs,  jigs, tubes and blade baits.

For Crappie,   Fish a bobber with minnows or jigs in 5 to 15ft around brush or try points or ledges where you locate shad around the creek channels.    Also try trolling crankbaits or grubs around the mouths of the creeks, channel bluffs,  and long tapering points or humps.

Stripers and Hybrids,

Stripers and hybrids are being caught on the upper end of the lake from 25E Bridge on up river, but the lower end has been better with the muddy water up river.   Expect the bite to get better as the water clears.  Try trolling umbrella rigs using Storm or Berkley 5 to 6 inch swimbaits in a pearl or Chartruese shad color anywhere from 10ft  to 30 ft over channel points, flats and humps, or casting flies or red fins if you catching them feeding near the surface.  And if you can catch them, use bluegill or shad tightlined down to a school marked on your depthfinder.
